MICRO’s Explorer Program trains and employs high school students to engage the public in free science exploration at MICRO’s museums. These students serve as docents, and lead hands-on activities for visitors of all ages. Their work increases the amount of time visitors spend at the museum by fivefold.
Serving as a MICRO Explorer is an opportunity for students to gain real-world work experience in science communication, and to engage their communities in new conversations about the world we all share.
MICRO also offers Explorers the opportunity to participate in seminars and training on a number of topics, including financial literacy and public speaking.
“Before MICRO, I was too shy to talk to people around me. The Explorer program broke me out of my shell! It built my confidence and let me give back to my community. I’m in college now, where I feel much more comfortable meeting new people and speaking during presentations.”
-Alexandra Cuatlayo, Explorer, South Bronx
